Since leaving academic research, I have been fortunate to have been awarded funding for various projects by the following organisations:

2000-1 Wellcome Trust History of Medicine, for research into 18th-century Dutch and Scottish anatomists for The Embalmer's Book of Recipes.

2002-3  Wellcome Trust,  the Biochemistry Society and Pfizer UK, to support the second Words and Pictures: explaining science conference, Carlisle.

2003-2005 Wellcome Trust People Award, jointly with Dr Tom Shakespeare, PEALS, Newcastle, for 'Talking Science in Cumbria'

2005  Creative Partnerships CARA award, for Footprints in the sand, with Stephen Burrowes, Head of Science, for Year 7 &8 students at Settlebeck School, Sedbergh

2005  Jennings Brewery, Cockermouth, for Cafe Scientifique start-up

2005 Theatre by the Lake, Keswick and North-West Playwrights for the tEXtPERIMENT project with playwrights

2005  NESTA, with Peter Normington of ARDUS, for the design and setting up of the web-based  SciTalk resource for writers, and for running related events and publicity

2006  Biosciences Federation and the British Mycological Society to support SciTalk events

2006 NESTA and the Guardian, for the 'Subtle Science' short story competition and the SciTalk event at the Science Museum's Dana Centre
